The secondary role gave us plenty of practice, justification for existence, experience, professional development and, quite frankly, excitement. We wouldn’t have otherwise had these things had we just been doing training flights all day, waiting to perform our primary role a few times a year. Even the people we rescued whose ambition outweighed their experience and preparation didn’t bother most of us, I don’t think. Yes, we’d sigh as we picked up someone wearing trainers and without any equipment up a mountain.📷
