She resents the odds stacked against her thanks to her gender and wishes that she had been born a man. So, Cersei does her best, unconsciously, to prove herself and satisfy her need for recognition. She wants power and is constantly scheming for it. The very reason that she loves Jaime is because she wishes she was him, and because, for Jaime, she’s the only person in the world. Imagine how it must feel for Cersei, having someone who is so completely devoted to her and her alone, and doesn’t care about anything else. It would most certainly boost her ego.
