You do not lose much muscle when fasting. The opposite impression occurs because a lot of ‘experts’ have you lay around for a couple weeks while fasting so you don’t over exert yourself. If you just lay around for a few weeks, you will lose muscle whether you are fasting or not, though maybe slightly faster while fasting. If you remain somewhat active while fasting, this is not a problem
