Water fasting does not become starvation until your fat stores run low. At that point, you body starts consuming vital organ tissues for fuel, then you die. By that point you are pretty damned skeletal. If you are at a normal healthy weight or overweight, then it will certainly take more than a month of fasting before you reach the point of starvation. I would not recommend fasting more than 2 weeks, though others believe there is a benefit to longer fasts.
