I was called shy when I was a kid. Once I got to know someone I was ok with them for a one-on-one basis. But I always dreaded family gatherings or group events like movies, concerts etc. However the shyness bloomed into really bad anxiety and panic after a hysterecomy at age 44. Some people are shy but do not have anxiety.. others are both.
