Nurses are the ones who see when a patient is (for instance) over-sedated, calls the physicians to tell him what’s going on, and then declines to give the next dose of sedation when the physician insists it must be given (all the times I’ve said, “I won’t give the medication, but if you want it to be given, I’ll draw it up and you can give it” to the physician—EVERY TIME the physician has changed their mind. Suddenly they are no longer so adamant that the patient receive the medication.)
